2024 FFV Four Job Fiesta Runs
Run #2
- 2024-09-03 — I didn’t finish run #1 in time (never had much time at my MiSTer to play it), so I did the most sensible thing and… started another run instead… on Pixel Remaster. I think the writing in this version still annoys me, but it’s hard to deny that it’s otherwise a very enjoyable experience, especially with all the PS4/5s I have around the house. As long as I’m good with a more vanilla Fiesta experience (as in, no hacking to get all the jobs immediately), it might be my go-to version.
- 2024-09-03 — rolled just wind jobs and got Monk. I don’t know yet if I want to treat this as a regular run or the “typhoon” run where each crystal rolls from all available jobs, but I’ll figure that out when I get to the water crystal.
Run #1
Well, I never finished my test run before the real Fiesta started, but I did get a new ROM patchset put together (see below), so it wasn’t a total wash. Let’s go!
- 2024-06-15 — First job is Dancer! Even only having one Knife and one Dagger at the start, it seems pretty broken to have random access to Jitterbug Duet and Sword Dance. I jitterbugged Wing Raptor in one round…
- 2024-06-16 — lol, you can Tempting Tango the normal Siren and she’ll waste turns hitting herself instead of turning into a zombie… amazing.
- 2024-06-16 — Magissa and Forza trivialized, you can Tempting Tango Forza!
- 2024-06-17 — Garula gave me a bit of trouble just because I didn’t think to put myself in the back row. Second job is Ranger, which can equip shields and axes!? This patchset continues to amaze me.
- 2024-06-19 — Liquiflame bested. The killing blow? SQUIRRELS
- 2024-06-19 — Fire job is Monk…
- 2024-07-09 — boy, Soul Cannon kind of sucked with this party.
- 2024-07-09 — Summoner!
- 2024-08-24 — haven’t had much time to play lately, and I’m not sure I’ll finish this run in time, but we’ll see. Currently in Regole, fairly smooth sailing so far. Bridgemesh was a bit of trouble.
Run #0
To try out a new set of ROM patches, I decided to do a run on my own before the Fiesta started. This was to see if I
had anything too broken on my hands in using Final Fantasy V Tweaks. In
addition to Inu bugfixes, it does some equipment tweaks and makes Berserker not auto-rage, which could seriously affect
a Fiesta run.
Four days and I already don’t like it. New set of patches, hopefully becoming my favored edition after a test run:
ff5_core-1.7.ips
— Inu’s core architecture for their many bugfixes and enhancementsff5_ext-1.2.ips
— Inu’s reorganization of some code for further bugfixes and enhancementsff5_bugfixes/bugfix/
— every bugfix from Inu’s collection, see its READMEanti_ff5_learning.ips
— interferes with later auto-learn patchesff5_dash_ps.ips
— hold cancel to dashff5_fast_nothing.ips
— speed up nothing animations/processingff5_kiss_of_blessing.ips
— fix the Kiss of Blessing exploit (the NED skipper)ff5_lv5_death.ips
— allows one boss (Adamantoise I think) to not be Lv.5 Deathedff5_item_menu.ips
— don’t display tents, etc. as usable when they aren’tff5_alljobs.ips
— make all jobs available at the start (Fiesta hackery)ff5_findpits_always_equipped.ips
ff5_map_always_available.ips
ff5_passages_always_equipped.ips
ff5_drag_to_haste_self.ips
— Drag just changes battle speed, this makes it not uselessff5_nomissables_shop_price_changes.ips
— put missable items in Dwarven shopff5_nomissables_treasure_monster_changes.ips
— put missable drops on non-missable monstersFinalFantasyVLotCv21.ips
— Legend of the Crystals, an updated translation based on RPGeff5_better_item_menu.ips
— sorts weapons better in the Item menuff5_optional_rename_speed.ips
— part of 14, rename Drag to SpeedSuper_Custom_Classes_v100.ips
— equipment tweaks, 3 command slots, including Always Learning

- 01–09: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3766/
- Notes: the ability menu enhancement breaks alljobs, and sort breaks on English patches (but has been reimplemented)
- 10: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/6926/
- 11–13: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3746/
- Notes: always learning is interesting but part of the super custom classes

- Notes: I don’t know about the return to Pirate Faris but the translation is pretty good, and more importantly, works, whereas the RPGe patch does not, probably due to Inu’s many changes

I rolled my jobs with the power of cat ~/games/ffv-jobs.txt | grep -v Freelancer | shuf | head -n 4
and got Berserker
(naturally, and hey, a good test of the above, hopefully), Mime (never had this in a Fiesta before), Black Mage, and
Dragoon. So this will definitely be a test of… something.
- 2024-05-07 — jobs rolled as above. I’m really curious how the Berserker stuff will play out if I can choose when to rage.
- 2024-05-11 — Berserker is just… not fun this way. I really like everything in my usual patches, I think I’m just going to try applying some more convenience stuff.
- 2024-05-12 — starting over with the set of patches described above.
- 2024-05-14 — Wing Raptor is kind of a pain when you can’t equip any weapons, which is apparently the reality for four starting Berserkers with these patches.
- 2024-05-16 — had to grind to level 8 to win the Karlabos DPS race.
